Meet our President
One mission
Bill Fisher co-founded Englishtown as an EF company in 1996. The company’s mission then, as now, was to use technology to create a fundamentally better way to learn English.
Bill firmly believed that traditional language training methods fail most students by forcing them all to learn at a fixed pace, on a fixed schedule. Learning English before Englishtown was inflexible, inconvenient and impersonal.
Bill’s Story
After earning a computer science degree from Brown University in the United States, Bill Fisher moved to Sweden to study at the Stockholm School of Economics. To learn Swedish as quickly as possible, he developed his own computer-based study program, which ultimately formed the foundation of his partnership with EF’s founder Bertil Hult.
This concept, backed by EF’s thirst for innovation and willingness to make smart long-term investments, resulted in the world’s most advanced language learning system: Englishtown.
"More than a decade later, Englishtown is still a better way to learn English. We give students choice, convenience and value, "says Bill. "But our mission doesn’t stop there. We remain committed to constant innovation towards the goal of faster language learning."
